Suffolk-based cricket club Saffa XI (South Africans Far From Africa) was founded in 2020, when Brad James was asked by a friend whether he could find opposition for a cricket fixture. Fast forward six years and the team now competes in around 15 fixtures per season including their annual club tour. The squad, made up entirely of South African players, provides a sense of identity and connection for those living far from home.
SAFFA XI is made of a playing squad of 20 players all of whom have been brought together by a shared love of cricket. Brad moved to the UK in 2005 and through his rugby connections, knew how well STC supplied custom rugby kit and teamwear to clubs across East Anglia.
Once sponsorship for the kit was secured, STC helped design and manufacture the team’s first kit, a bespoke design in the iconic South African colours of yellow and green.
Over these six years, SAFFA XI has gone from strength to strength, entering local tournaments and making competition finals. As they have evolved, so too has their kit offering. They now have dedicated cricket kits for both red-ball and white-ball formats, alongside a range of training and post-match teamwear.
One of their recent tours saw SAFFA XI travel to London to play against another South African team. This distinctive and custom designed kit drew high praise from the opposition, some of whom even expressed an interest in purchasing it themselves!
