Founded in 2019, the England Kabaddi Union was created to provide the sport with the structure and governance needed to grow nationally. Since becoming President in 2022, Sanjay has helped oversee the development of Kabaddi throughout England.
To go alongside this, a new kit partnership with STC has been launched helping provide players and associate clubs with access to match kit and teamwear. The new match kits were designed and delivered in time for their European Championships victory in April.
Before partnering with STC, Sanjay faced the challenges common to many new and growing clubs looking for a kit supplier; namely how to balance quality, cost and lead times.
“At the start, we were a new organisation just trying to raise funds,” said Sanjay. “We used to source our kits from overseas. We were after more than someone who just supplied kit. We wanted a proper partner who could also support us with merchandise and teamwear.”
Sanjay first discovered STC through university sport. “I recognised the STC logo from some university teams I saw online, and that gave us confidence to get in touch.”
The partnership has already developed into something bigger and better than a traditional supplier relationship. As their kit partner, STC also support affiliated clubs and university teams across the country, helping them access high-quality custom Kabaddi kits.
The long-term vision for Sanjay is to strengthen the visibility of both Kabaddi and the sport’s growing university network throughout the UK.
Sanjay highlights the support received from the STC team throughout the process, particularly during the setup of the partnership and the creation of the first bespoke kits.
“From day one, STC has been very accommodating. We had a lot of questions while going through the partnership process and they were always reassuring and helpful. They were brilliant throughout. They helped with design options, talking us through everything, and just made the entire process very straightforward.”
And, with tight turnaround times ahead of the European Championships in Poland, STC also delivered under pressure. “We needed the kits quickly and STC got everything completed and delivered in good time for the tournament.”
Feedback from players has also been extremely positive, with the England squads praising both the design and quality of the new kits. “The players are really happy. There’s a professionalism to it that we were looking for.”
The next step in the partnership will see STC launch an official online store for England Kabaddi Union, something Sanjay believes will be a major moment for the organisation.
“Our players and clubs will be thrilled because this will be the first time we have had an official club store. It’s another major step forward for us.”
With the partnership only recently underway, both organisations are excited about the future and the opportunities ahead to grow the game across schools, universities, and clubs nationwide.
